Paddling is amazingly popular on the flat Dutch waters. We even have Paddling championships held in ‘the low lands’, which – for who didn’t know yet – is the literal meaning of ‘the Netherlands’. Our champion and femlae teacheris all you and your gals can wish for. See Amsterdam from the water and have a great workout to start your day with. Or get rid of that booze buzz from last nights’ partying!
Stand Paddle: WTF is it?
Originated in Hawaï, supping as we call it today, was already done in the sixties by surf instructors. The Beach Boys were ruling and every American wanted to learn how to surf. To keep an eye on the tons of students that were splashing around, the instructors were standing on their boards to have a clear view on the tourists and to take pictures of their pupils.
Get that core working
Regular surfing means a lot of ‘lie down paddling’, using your arms to get moving. Whereas supping means you are standing on top of your board and using a paddle to get going. And, while you are moving the paddle from the water on the left side of your board to the right side, it is an extremely effective workout for your entire core. But massively enjoyable at the same time. Legs, glutes, abs, back and shoulders are getting an intense kick in the ‘you know where’…
A couple of years ago some surfers ‘rediscovered’ the idea of paddling and the world followed. Especially since celebs like Cameron Diaz, Rihanna, Cindy Crawford and Matthew McConaughey are seen on their SUP board, rocking their toned bodies along the Californian coast.
